You Need To Know A Lot About Retirement

Retirement

Retirement (Photo credit: LendingMemo)

2014 Taxes are here causing many people to worry a lot about retirement. If you are among these people, i.e. you feel you are far behind in your retirement or haven't started saving for it at all, this tax article will give you some advice on readying yourself for this imminent event.

In essence, opening an IRA account and increasing the amount you have allocated for savings. There are numerous tax benefits you will gain from doing so. Normally, the money saved in this account is not taxed. Furthermore, it is a great way to lock in your savings until you retire. You should also avoid withdrawing from your retirement account. Such withdrawals attract large penalties which could eventually eat into the money you have set aside for retirement.

If your employer has a retirement plan, take part in it. Many employers provide a matching plan which increases one's savings. Make as many payments to your 401K as you can. On top of offering tax breaks on your income, if your investments meet their criteria, they normally match your investments.

There are some instances where an individual is eligible for a reduction in taxes on property upon the attainment of a certain age. These put you in a position where you are able to lower the amount you owe every year. This makes it easier for you to budget if you are on a fixed income. Find out if such a plan is there in your area and see how you can apply for it.

You may want to consider Roth IRA when you are searching for a way to save for retirement without the necessity of paying taxes on withdrawals made. Since you do not have a tax write-off once you make a contribution, you will not be required to pay anything when you withdraw.

Finally, ensure that you spend your post-retirement savings wisely. Look at them as the last option in cases where you have accounts whose interest is not being taxed. When you choose to take money from an account that attracts tax, you need to spend wisely and make more money overall on taxes.

Five Practices That Hurt Your Credit Score

Factors contributing to someone's credit score...Image via WikipediaPresent times have put a great deal on credit scores. Know what practices to avoid so that your credit score would remain in good standing.

Our present society operates on credit. People are encouraged to lead a consumerist life despite the absence of actual money. Credit cards and loans have been available for anyone who wants to make purchases, large or small, in exchange of a promise to return what he or she would owe. Needless to say, words written on paper and signatures are not enough to serve as basis for allowing someone to borrow money. Credit scores are then devised to reflect a person’s creditworthiness. In the world of credit, it has become a significant determining factor in assessing if a person can repay the debt, what type of debt the applicant would qualify for, and on what percentage of interest the debt should operate. Credit scores should be kept in good standing to elicit trust from creditors.
Given that credit scores are important, you should make it a point to keep you credit standing in good and favorable condition. You should be aware of the practices that may hurt your credit score, as well as your finances.
1. Making late payments. One of the important components of your credit score is payment history. Your creditors look at this part of your score to know if you have been a responsible payer with your past financial obligations. You should avoid paying after the due date because missing payments can harm your score drastically.
2. Using 50 to 80 percent of your available credit. It is ideal that you only avail of 25 to 30 percent of your total allowed credit. It is better to have two or three cards with small balances than using one card up to its maximum limit.
3. Filing for bankruptcy. If you are overwhelmed with debt and you are struggling to pay them off, bankruptcy should be your last option. It can severely damage your credit score for years, as well as limit your employment opportunities and endanger your assets. If you really want to get rid of your debt, you may consider debt relief programs such as debt settlement and consolidation. This may affect your score to some extent but you can recover faster than when you file for bankruptcy.
4. Applying for multiple credit cards and loans. The number of inquiries that appear on your credit report may be regarded by creditors as a negative implication because it can indicate your critical financial situation. Your inquiries may be read as need for money or financial struggle.
5. Ignoring your debts. Some people think that ignoring their financial obligations will make their problems go away when in fact, this worsens the situation. As long as you disregard the notifications and creditor calls and not take action, interest and penalty charges add up to your principal debt and your credit score suffers. If you cannot handle your debts on your own, look into the available debt relief program that offer assistance in debt management. These solutions may somewhat harm your score but they may help you get out of debt faster. The sooner you clear up your debts, the better for your credit standing.

Despite the weight of credit scores in our present economy, you can resort to using cash and not opting for credit. However, maintaining good credit scores may be of great use if you plan to purchase a home or a vehicle. Keeping your credit score in a satisfactory condition also reflects your character, trustworthiness, and financial responsibility.

Five Ways to Rebuild Credit

'I'm Lovin It' — HM1(FMF) Fred Turner swipes h...Image via Wikipedia

High unemployment and falling home values have wrought havoc with American families and their finances. Many people find themselves hopelessly in debt and unable to maintain financial responsibilities: bills pile up, credit scores plummet and consumers are unable to secure further credit or a mortgage because of low credit scores. The challenge is how to rebuild credit when you have been hit with so many challenges. With careful planning, the average consumer can bounce back from poor credit.

Knowing what makes up your credit score will help you make the right choices when trying to manage your credit. Credit companies look at payment history, types of credit, total debt owed vs. available credit (“balance to limit ratio”), length of time credit has been established, and new accounts and inquiries. With this in mind, here are five ways to rebuild your credit.

1. Pay on Time

Make at least the minimum payments on your account on time. Late payments negatively affect your credit score. If you miss a payment, get back on track the next month. Recent missed payments have a more negative impact than payments missed in the past. If you have trouble keeping track of payments, sign up with a free online bill payment service. This will rebuild credit plus provide documentation for payments made.

2. Don’t Max Out Your Credit Cards

Credit capacity is the percentage of your total credit that you are not using. Higher credit capacity has a positive effect on your credit. For example, Customer A has a credit limit of $10,000 and a balance of $5,000. His credit capacity is 50%. Customer B has a credit limit of $10,000 and a balance of $$9,000. His credit capacity is 10%. Customer B will have a more negative credit rating because he has used most of his available credit.

3. Get Secured Credit Cards

You can get at positive report on your credit score by using a secured credit card. Secured credit cards are issued with a low credit limit based on funds you deposit with the bank that issued the card. You cannot charge more than the funds you have on deposit. This means that payments will be lower and more manageable and you won’t go over your credit limit. Making regular, timely payments on secured cards is a good way to rebuild credit.

4. Don’t Close Old Accounts

Older account or “seasoned accounts” carry more credit clout than newly opened accounts. If you are having difficulty with older accounts, try to pay them off rather than close them. Prioritize your payments. Newer accounts with small balances should be paid off first, then focus on paying down accounts with larger balances.

5. Monitor Your Credit Reports

Look carefully for errors or omissions. For example, if a payment is shown as missed that was actually paid, you should notify the credit reporting agency of the error in writing. When the error is corrected, your score will go up. You can get free credit at www.annualcreditreport.com. This report does not count as an inquiry, so there is no negative impact on your credit score.

Noelle Towler is co-founder of Secured Credit Cards 4U and is committed to helping consumers find the best financial products to meet their needs. Secured credit cards are an excellent way for consumers to rebuild credit without risking further bad debt. The website compares secured credit cards from leading US banks.

What Exactly is a Pension Loan?

CONWY, UNITED KINGDOM - NOVEMBER 06: In this ...Image by Getty Images via @daylife

They haven’t been around long, but pension loans have already started to become very popular in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and many other countries. If you have a pension and need quick access to funds, you should consider getting a pension loan. So what exactly is a pension loan?

What Is a Pension Loan?

In actuality, this option isn’t a loan at all. It’s more like a pension advance. There are financial institutions that extend money to pensioners in exchange for a chunk of the future pension payments they are expecting to receive. So, the “borrowers” get a lump sum of money to do whatever they want or need to do. It could be $10,000, $20,000 or $50,00. It all depends on how much their future pension payments are expected to be and how much cash they want to access right now.

The pension lump sum could be used for virtually anything, including the following:

  • Avoiding bankruptcy
  • College tuition
  • Debt consolidation
  • Dream vacation
  • Fantasy automobile
  • Major home renovations
  • Medical bills
  • New business venture
  • Saving a home from repossession

Why Choose a Pension Loan?

An individual might choose to get a pension advance instead of applying for a traditional loan or using a credit card for a number of reasons. First of all, the amount of cash the pensioner can access is much larger. In many cases, a retiree with a $100,000 pension can access as much as $75,000 in cash, even with less than perfect credit. The pension itself acts as collateral, although most financial institutions will only advance money to pensioners that have an alternative source of income for the time period in which they won’t be receiving payments. The process is fast and hassle-free, too, often taking only six weeks or less. And unlike bank loans, which typically require a lengthy explanation of where the money will be spent, the choice is in the hands of the pensioner.

If you are in need of a large sum of funds quickly, and have a pension, a pension loan could be just the solution you are seeking. Be sure to do your research, since you’ll want to be confident you’re going with one of the best pension loan companies online today, and get started moving toward your dream of paying off those bills, going back to college or taking that once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

Jessica writes about a wide variety of topics. She especially enjoys writing about loans. You can learn more about pension loans at www.uspensionfunding.com
